Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful examples of the body's design at work. From the moment of conception, your body knows exactly what to do — growing, adapting, and preparing to bring new life into the world. But as your body changes to make room for your baby, your nervous system and the structures important to a healthy pregnancy and birth come under a good amount of stress. That's where the Webster Technique comes in.

If you're pregnant or thinking about chiropractic care during pregnancy, here's what you need to know about this gentle, specific approach we use at Anthem Chiropractic.

What Is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment developed to reduce nervous system stress and improve pelvic balance during pregnancy. It focuses on the sacrum — the triangular bone at the base of your spine — and the surrounding ligaments and muscles that support your uterus.

Contrary to a common misconception, the Webster Technique isn't about "turning a baby." It's about removing interference so your body can do what it was already designed to do. When the pelvis is balanced and the nervous system is communicating clearly, your body has the best possible environment to carry, position, and prepare for the birth of your baby.

Why the Pelvis Matters So Much

As your baby grows, your body releases relaxing and other hormones that loosen ligaments to prepare for birth. This important part of the process can lead to uneven tension in the pelvis, especially if there was misalignment or stress present before pregnancy even began.

When the pelvis is out of balance, it can:

  • Create tightness or torsion in the ligaments that support the uterus

  • Restrict the space your baby has to move and grow

  • Contribute to common pregnancy discomforts like low back pain, hip pain, and sciatica

  • Make it harder for baby to settle into an optimal position for birth

A specific, gentle adjustment addresses these imbalances at the source — not by forcing anything, but by removing the interference that's keeping your body from functioning the way it was created to.

How It Benefits You and Your Baby

Reduces nervous system interference. Your nervous system controls and coordinates every function in your body, including the systems responsible for a healthy pregnancy and labor. When the spine and pelvis are aligned, your brain and body are able to communicate and function more optimally.

Supports optimal fetal positioning. A balanced pelvis gives your baby more room to move freely and find the position that works best for birth, rather than being restricted by uneven ligament tension.

Eases common pregnancy discomfort. Many of our moms report relief from low back pain, hip discomfort, round ligament pain, and pelvic pressure after consistent care.

Prepares the body for labor. A body that is balanced and functioning without interference tends to labor more efficiently, because there is less working against it.

Offers gentle, safe care throughout pregnancy. The Webster Technique is safe throughout pregnancy, but is particularly important within the last few weeks before birth, when we utilize it most.

This Is About Trusting the Design

At Anthem, we believe your body was created to know how to grow a baby, initiate labor, and bring new life into the world without being told how. Our job isn't to override that design. It's to remove interference so that intelligence can express itself fully, the way it was intended to.

Pregnancy isn't something to be managed from the outside in. It's a process to be supported from the inside out. That's the heart behind everything we do with our perinatal moms– walking alongside you, enabling your body to function just as it was designed.

What to Expect

If you're pregnant and new to chiropractic care, know this: our adjustments are gentle, specific, and tailored to exactly where you are in your pregnancy. We use pregnancy-safe positioning and techniques throughout every trimester, and many of our moms continue care right up until delivery — and bring their babies back to see us shortly after birth as well.

Whether you're experiencing discomfort, hoping to support optimal positioning, or simply want your nervous system functioning at its best as you prepare for one of life's biggest moments, we'd love to walk through this season with you.
